(cw suicide) the thing about the shell cracking open... I've given this too much thought because I always thought what got meganeura to call in retro was that he broke off his mandibles in a suicide attempt. it would cause fatal bleeding because they'd be connected to carotid arteries by proximity,

Just dropped an original track made with Suno v6
Trance mixed with Euro energy
Lyrics inspired by Meganeura — the giant dragonfly from the Carboniferous period — soaring through the ancient skies
Also cooked up a sample this time
Hope you feel the flight

the bbc's "ancient earth" is available streaming via britbox (just another reason to get a britbox sub : ) ).

in a wild hopeburst, i did a bsky search for "ordovician," and found a lot of nice posts -- and lots of trilobites, yay!!! : )

perhaps try "meganeura" and see what you find?

I wish they would go back further to the late Carboniferous period so I could hear a Meganeura fly by. I'm guessing it would sound a bit like a similarly sized modern drone. Maybe not so calming, but definitely interesting.

The Carboniferous coal swamps. Home to giant invertebrates like Meganeura and Arthropleura; as well as Amphibians such as Eryops and Diplocaulus and enormous fish like Rhizodus.

They're freaking GORGEOUS! Imagine how they looked in the Late Carboniferous to Middle Permian (an amazing 320-275 Ma!), when Meganeura, a giant dragonfly-like insect with a 3-foot wingspan, flew the skies!
August 15, 2026 at 2:37 AM
Meganeura Often called a "giant dragonfly", it actually belongs to an extinct order of griffenflies (Meganisoptera). It featured a massive wingspan of up to 75 centimeters (2.5 feet), making it one of the largest known flying insects in Earth's history
