Each individual LD contacts just one or two of the many possible partners, similar to other multi-copy organelles such as endosomes, lysosomes and peroxisomes. The liquid ordered (Lo) vacuolar domain in yeast is the only known macroscopic lipid raft in living cells that resembles the original raft hypothesis (Toulmay and Prinz, 2013).
