Another thing I don't understand are echoed pairs like Gallia. The echoverse versions of these cards aren't informed by the changes Jace made in any way. Dead Gallia, for example, could be printed in any Theros set. Why use slots on cards that aren't demonstrating your narrative and world building?

The card Gallia, the Merrymaker from Reality Fracture

The card Gallia, Tragic Host from Reality Fracture

A clip of the Legends of Reality Fracture article for Gallia, Tragic Host. It states:
"The satyr known as Gallia was more dedicated to parties and revels than any of her companions. So dedicated, in fact, that when she imbibed poisoned food at a feast, she simply kept going. Not even Erebos himself could keep Gallia from partying right out of the afterlife.
"As a Returned, Gallia has lost much of her identity. While she keeps throwing banquets, it's a lot harder to find attendees when you're dead. As the days pass, she remembers less and less about why she throws parties at all. She keeps setting table after table, but no one ever comes."

The original Sentinel, Hsin, was an immortal guardian created to guide humanity.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre | 1974

"Things happen hereabouts. They don't tell about.
I see things. You see they say it's just an old man... talking.
You laugh at an old man. It's them that laughs know better."

A moustached merrymaker (Joe Bill Hogan) doing the backstroke in the grass by the cemetery while enjoying libations. Hints at the hidden truths to Franklin who is sitting in the open van by the road.

My deck! Running a tried-and-true prerelease 41-card special. My pool was kind of all over the place, pushing me towards 5-color, though fixing was basically nonexistent.

I decided to run a Jund deck heavy on removal and aggression. Gonna try to Jund em out

My prerelease deck, which is singleton, unless otherwise stated:

Blessed Ghoul

One reason the Reality Fracture paired cards seem so disconnected from the story is that very few of them are from sets in this story arc. So many are from Dominaria, Innistrad, and the like. Not enough of them reflect characters of the past 3 years of sets that this story is supposed to cap.

The card Thalia, the Survivor, from Reality Fracture

The card Yargle, Glutton of Urborg from Reality Fracture

The card Ruric Thar, Magecrusher from Reality Fracture

If you put on a jester hat people will no longer laugh at you, and instead say such things like "Oh, there goes that merrymaker! They wear such fanciful outfits and the jingle of their bells bring joy to us all!"

No one will throw tomatoes. I promise. Don't look behind my back.

I like fixating on a card I think is bad in limited and Proft here is that. Not looking at tokens since our primary token is a 2/2 Cadet, Alquist kills potentially 35/160 creatures with Galia the Merrymaker and Proctor of Potential being good targets at rare.

See Play: Limited, Singleton, Other formats???
To be fair, making creatures with counters on them have haste can be a pretty strong ability. There plenty of creatures that enter the battlefield with counters or ways to make creature enter with counters. Has a chance, but, for a specific brew.

@shonentcg.bsky.social

Theros flavor text and a title like Merrymaker still beats most card games on personality per card. MTG's rarity structure does more storytelling work than most TCGs bother with.
