Almost didn't make it, but I finished it.
Happy Mermay. Sea snakes count as merpeople right? Anyways, my Mer-snake has arrived.

working on a Yin-Yang Master: Dream of Eternity fanfic for the FWYS event. Premise is Fangyue is a giant mersnake woman and the plot revolves around something happening on an island near her.
“Do you like it? “ Fang Yue asked. Her voice echoed powerfully off the walls. “It is suitable,” he replied. His own voice felt like a whisper, though his volume did not dip below how he would speak normally. Fang Yue lowered her head and her voice to be closer to him. “It is my home, when the sea does not call me to swim in its currents.” Her accent was odd, archaic. It reminded He Shouyue of the grannies he would speak to on missions, or the older shishen of the few elders who still held them. “May I move your treasures? “ he asked politely. It would not do to anger the serpent woman, but it would be difficult to live in that mildewed space. Thankfully, she nodded, her long hair dragging and splashing in the shallow water lapping at her chest. “Ask me before you throw anything away. Make yourself comfortable.” The unspoken truth rose up between them: He Shouyue was not a temporary guest. They both fully expected to stay together for a long time. His master's parting words, spoken in quiet tones in their shared cabin, echoed in He Shouyue's mind. [italics start] “She is capable and powerful, but she is still the vessel of the Evil Serpent. If any harm were to befall her, you must protect Fang Yue. Do it not only for the safety of the world, but for my peace of mind. Until I return to you, serve Fang Yue as you would serve me.” [end italics] “What does He Shouyue wish to do now?” Fang Yue asked. He Shouyue folded his hands behind his back. He rocked onto his heels, surveying the cave as if the new master of an estate. The ache in his chest was pushed aside to consider plans and options to meet his needs. “I will assess what your treasure trove holds first,” he said at last. “However, I anticipate I will need certain furnishings and goods. This shishen is... Unused to rough living,” he said as explanation. He had no memory of ever living in a place besides his master's comfortable estate. His time before becoming a shishen were hazy and in distinct, the passage of time muddling them like a painting left out in the rain. “At the very least, I will need fresh food. My rations will only last so long.” “I will hunt.” With a great susurration and a much quieter splash than he was expecting, Fang Yue left the cave. After her abrupt departure, He Shouyue stood in the silence of solitude for the first time in... perhaps years. Decades, maybe. Even a private moment in a human city or estate had a feeling of life existing in parallel to him. Here he was just... Alone. He had never felt so shockingly small.
