New from the #TRIDENT team: Amr Eed et al. linked cellular-resolution whole-CNS light-sheet imaging with mesoscopic awake-mouse MRI in the same animals. More pS129 α-synuclein meant more atrophy, weaker connectivity, and sensorimotor hypoactivation, pointing to a toxic role in PD and DLB.🧠 #NFRF
Phosphorylated α-synuclein pS129 is found in aggregates that are pathological hallmarks of PD and DLB. The toxicity of pS129 has been up for debate for years. Combining LSM, MRI, rsfMRI and task fMRI, we demonstrate a toxic role for pS129 in synucleinopathies. 1/2

Yes, I think that what we do is to somehow coordinate a gazillion synapses. What this lacks in speed it makes up for in flexible selectivity. Maybe EFs play a role in certain brain wide oscillations, maybe not. But I see them as a coarse tool - if anyone does, then everyone gets influenced.
