I spent my adolescence in 2000s California talking to adults on BBC messageboards. They were communities, where people knew & looked out for each other, & there was a heavy moderation/admin presence that I personally experienced step in when there was a safeguarding issue. There are other options.
It would disproportionately affect LGBTQIA+ young people, who rely more heavily on the platforms to connect with other queer people
