You bolt awake in the woods of New England. It's 1671 and you are Metacomet. The future cannot come to pass. The English must be driven into the sea.
Going back in time to tell the puritans that their descendents are worshipping a guy who posts images of himself as the pope.

This Aimé Césaire quotation is relevant again today.

In recognition of the Day of Mourning the United American Indians declared on this day in 1970—in hopes of offering important context to colonial mythology about early Thanksgivings—we offer the story of Metacomet’s War:

"No one colonizes innocently, no one colonizes with impunity either; a nation which colonizes, a civilization which justifies colonization and therefore force, is already a sick civilization, a civilization which is morally diseased."

—Aimé Césaire, Discourse on Colonialism
Since the declaration of the supposed ceasefire, the Israeli military has violated it an average of ten or more times a day, murdering hundreds of Palestinians, including scores of small children.

There is no peace in Gaza, nor in the West Bank. As the genocide continues, so must our resistance.

I got to talk to my class this morning about the documents signed by Metacomet and about Wussausmon and the Massachusetts Bibles and really, archives are joy. My time @mhs1791.bsky.social and @congrelib.bsky.social and @bpl.boston.gov being brought into the classroom.

Today is the 50th anniversary of the release of Jaws, so I am celebrating the only way that I know how . . . an antebellum bank note featuring three Native American individuals in a boat with one about to spear a shark. Metacomet Bank, Fall River, MA, $500, 18--.🗃️

New England didn't do the former to the same degree as the South.

But Metacomet would argue they made up for it by being better at the latter.

There was (and is) a significant Native community in Aquinnah (Gay Head).

Metacomet is an underrated figure in American history, as are the "praying Indians."

2025 has been an extremely difficult year for me and for so many of us. Lots of losses and grieving not to mention the injustices and injuries being unleashed in the United States and the entire world. I hope 2026 is better, that monsters are defeated and that kindness grows.

A beautiful spot and a super interesting geologic feature! It's part of the Metacomet Ridge, which is the result of lava filling a rift valley millions of years ago. The valley itself was made of softer rock and has long since been eroded away. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metacom...

"the fact that they had a boat land there [...] doesn't mean they own the land"

Metacomet (Wampanog), Tecumseh (Shawnee), the Suquamish and Duwamish peoples, Osceola (Seminole), et. al. would like to have a word.
