They are! I liked The Trees better as a reader, and I liked James better as a literary nerd & metafiction fangirl.

i don't want to talk too much about war and salvation because i think they're worth reading in sequence on their own, but the way the non-linear narrative turns into metafiction especially in salvation is totally crazy. not surprising to see this was published back in the 70s

Pra mexer com a ideia de romance historiográfico e de "metaficção historiográfica", especialmente, o The Poetics of Postmodernism da Linda Hutcheon (1988) é essencial, mas também recomendo "Metafiction: The Theory and Practice of Self-conscious Fiction", da Patricia Waugh (1984).

The Universal Baseball Association, Inc., J. Henry Waugh, Prop. by Robert Coover if you want to mix in some deeply sad metafiction about a fictional baseball league.

Incredible that Uchikoshi posted so hard and funny on Twitter after ZTD that he avoided being known as the "noncanonical metafiction" guy or "Kyle will arrive in 2028" guy

So you think you're down with the metafiction? You yawn at 4th wall breaks? Thomas Pynchon and Grant Morrison call you for help with their plot outlines?

IMSCARED thinks you're small, and alone, and not nearly so brave and smart as you think you are. @mayorhere.bsky.social reveals... the truth?

Just saw someone try to argue that Giggleland being extremely an extremely generic mascot horror game is intentional because it's part of the metafiction, that's not an excuse for making a video game that sucks especially when you advertise it as being different from other games.

I think what really sets Nashi apart is how willing they are to experiment with the form of their works. Most of the mockumentary stuff that's booming in JP horror lit currently dabbles in metafiction to a degree, but you can generally pin down the main patterns through which these books try to

I watched DEAD MEDIA which was released just in time for Halloween. It's a delightful metafictional horror film and a love letter to films from the nineties and their accompanying DVD bonus features. A treasure of a film.

It’s a good thing we studied postmodern metafiction or where would we be.

This book is prettygood btw. self-deconstructing work of fiction does help us deconstruct social reality which is a very needed set of skills in any era but in this one especially. waugh does a good job explaining how metafiction goes about doing this. I'm not obsessed you're obsessed

Josh: “I can’t get over Harrison and Lily.”
Pip: “You didn’t listen to #TheArchers while you were away, then?”
Josh: “Of course not. NEVER listen to The Archers, Pip! We already got stuck in a time loop this week – we don’t want to get trapped in a metafiction paradox feedback loop too!” 😱

This hits so hard when you watch it as metafiction in mind

the idea of "you're a viking growing your llittle colony in surrounded by ambivalent or hostile neighbors" really suits the super meandering, episodic nature of the different regional arcs barely threaded together by the shadow war metafiction, which would mirror a dune game where u start as fremen

''While the film would’ve been compelling if it were composed entirely of the 30-some days Fielder and Oppenheim spent with Holmes and her egomaniac partner, Billy Evans, in their San Diego beach rental, it would’ve only scraped the surface of Holmes’ psyche. In that relatively short time, [...]''
