#metamerism
thomas and i just argued about the word “metamerism” for 2-3 minutes before he finally conceded that yes, i came up with the right word, AND i was saying “metamerism” lmao

i married right

Your daily metamerism: the fists and forearms appear as the same color when viewed in person, but not in photography. Nylon strikes again!

As both a print and Typo O Negative fan I'm fascinated that they chose Pantone 369 as their signature green and that it showed up so bright on their clothes and guitars. I suspect metamerism and material components to be at play here.

i know a joke about metamerism, but it's a little off-color
I have a joke about hypogeusia, but it's kinda tasteless.
I have a Schrödinger's cat joke but I won't know the punchline until I tell it.

My field broadly if not narrowly:

cloth, paper, paint, and the like can look radically different colors under different lights even if the lights are the same color.

at the qualia bazaar, bartering all my blues for spatial metamerism-enabled olo, dodecachrome glimmers, "wet" fluorescents, and swirlier klüver constants

when you’re the kind of girl who reads 15-page technical threads (aka arguments) on IS CCD MAGIC REAL??

you’re gonna learn the word “metamerism”

Light is about sensing, and color is perceiving.

This is an example of metamerism. The leaves on the tree appear green relative to the surroundings. In fact they're actually gray!

This can be challenging during color grading, as the green slider in the HSL controls might not work.

Apple is working with CIE to refine a new color matching function as an alternative to CIE 1931, currently called "Apple CMF 2026". This has been attempted multiple times (like by UCL London in 2000), but only minor scaling changes to mitigate metamerism issues. Wonder what Apple's motivation is. 🤔

It's funny to me how Rec. 2020 was kind of a mistake. It'll basically only ever be used as a distribution container, since actually achieving it IRL is riddled with problems like laser diode speckle and metamerism mismatch between different human eyes.

Metamerism is so cool! But was also the bane of my existence for like 7 years of my life lmao

METAMERISM!

Ah yes metamerism at its finest.

You can't have tagmatization without metamerism.

Tagmosis is a derived condition of metamerism in annelids, #arthropods, and chordates in which groups of adjacent segments are modified to perform specific functions.

It's gibberish. 🤦

Most colours in nature AND artificial pigments are a complex continuous spectrum as any spectrometer demonstrates.

Only some lasers emit a single frequency. Please look up metamerism and don't take physics, chemistry or even printing advice from a TV anatomist.

Right, so LEDs produce colour in a different way to incandescents [and sunlight]: the light itself is matched, but it reflects differently off coloured objects. "metamerism", two things are the same colour under one light and different in another.

Colors are a fascinating topic. I recently stumbled over "Metamerism" in an unrelated to birds context ->

TIL that this effect for different colors while recording seems to get called "metameric failure".

See Wikipedia for details -> en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metamer...

(and likely a gazillion of explainers on YouTube, not looked there)

When it's controlled, metamerism like that is incredible in action. Hope it works out!

Oh and my cock is melanated so it can be hard to distinguish red from brown in the low light (I.e. metamerism)
