Time limits and a midnight cutoff: Meta’s new rules for kids go further, but critics say not enough

Meta limits teen screen time to two hours and enforces a midnight cutoff on its platforms. Compliance from rivals is key for full funding to be released.

may it be mcconnell's legacy that reconstruction includes a whole raft of metarules:

when in congress, show up to your job

when there is a nominee, there must be a vote

when a bill passes, it must in fact be advanced for either signature or veto

when congress allocates $ it must be spent
Imagine if there were some kind of rule that if you're in Congress, you need to show up for work & be reachable when you're not at work, and if you're not, you need to explain why and where you are and when you'll be back.

You know, kind of like a real job.

Meanwhile in Red Bank NJ, RedBankGreen takes umbrage with one of the town's latest "awards".
I'm surprised they've yet to notice that Red Bank is always Ready! for yet another spurious accolade.
Oh yes, and they've posted their piece exclusively to Instagram.

You would then have an abassador of the sea who is not quite human, but very much not a sea coral, that understands the metarules that govern how each Synthetic Sea Coral works, such as where to plant them, how they thrive, and other specifics.

So I'm afraid some metarules are not just useful, but necessary, and have to be optimized not from the ground principles up, but in the context of long-term policies, of nazionalism and propaganda that makes people personify territories, languages and identities etc. It makes it way more complicated

This is a beautiful manifesto, and nicely explains what I've always worked towards in running and playing games. The best rules are those which guide the player towards subverting them, yet stifle enough to instigate breaking the metarules around "acceptible ways of subverting the rules"

When I ran tournaments I had metarules for actual cheating vs "within the rules" cheating. e.g., no stealing cards except through game mechanics, turn order, 11 is more than 10, etc.

I would not count cards in hand, legality of items in play, or things like that. Those were for players to catch!

I literally don't think the information is encoded in the language in any way.

like, I would be surprised to learn that any form of statistical linguistic analysis on any given 1% of the Japanese printed corpus could divine the metarules that comprised the language

I think many people don't use custom cursor rules because they don't know where to begin. I'm experimenting with a set of "metarules" which I can use in chat to generate custom rules for any project

The games have similarities, but the biggest difference is that I've moved away from the idea of systems trying to cover everything for a group. I worked on Action-Heroes to make it more cinematic, which meant looking at things from a metarules angle. I worked up advice on running games like this.

Rafael performs this type of analysis for the upper and lower bounds of interference and decay parameters, ultimately allowing him to formulate "Metarules" for simultaneously reasoning about these upper and lower bounds. 7/

In practice everyone has their own metarules on when to escalate, backed up by the threat of the VERY STRICT formal policy! This is a very bad system!!!

(And really common; it’s also kind of how we think about drugs?)

I guess technically these are metarules.
