@michaelshapcott The "hire a consultant, save $" meme is all too common. Real savings = long hrs of internal case analysis.
December 6, 2024 at 3:40 PM
@michaelshapcott No, the Charter allows that. Though Ford or no Ford, it's unfair to see that case as one "without facts."
December 6, 2024 at 12:17 PM
@michaelshapcott No, he had no facts to assign guilt. He did have cause for suspicion: the in-camera award of a sole-source 20 yr deal.
December 6, 2024 at 12:12 PM
@michaelshapcott Countless progressives made similar statements re: P3s awarded in a similar way. Do you want to limit their rights as well?
December 6, 2024 at 12:12 PM
@michaelshapcott And he was careful enough - this time, anyway. Which is why the judge's decision found that he was careful.
December 6, 2024 at 12:07 PM
@michaelshapcott Actually, many of those critiques are often flawed, in part b/c too much P3 data is held in secret - hence my point.
December 6, 2024 at 12:07 PM
@michaelshapcott Good - so if you agree, consider what tools exist to fight closed-door govt. "Suspicion" is, by necessity, one tool.
December 6, 2024 at 12:07 PM
@michaelshapcott Well, I hope you now at least see why I'm not, especially given explosion of closed-door dealings here in Wpg.
December 6, 2024 at 12:07 PM
@michaelshapcott Well, to be fair, our mortgage market *is* private. Public area is mortgage insurance + related securities.
December 6, 2024 at 11:57 AM
@michaelshapcott Yeah, I'm almost scared to go down this rabbit hole w/ you on Twitter after last week. :)
December 6, 2024 at 11:57 AM
@michaelshapcott The problem w/ the current system is classic moral hazard: public risk, private reward. Sure you'd agree to - (1/2)
December 6, 2024 at 11:57 AM
@michaelshapcott - more modest reforms to attack that issue but again, tough to nuance that discussion in two-sentence bursts.
December 6, 2024 at 11:57 AM
@michaelshapcott Agreed.

@michaelshapcott Note: on @DavidSoknacki's first campaign day, he specified rules for how he'd separate business interests if elected. :)

@michaelshapcott The headline point aside, Michael, do you really believe foreign investment is the problem here (or there?)
December 3, 2024 at 7:43 AM
@michaelshapcott As I noted yday, one appeal of modular to me is construction speed; better to surge unit #s now instead of waiting 5 yrs.
