It's a small gesture but this year I decided to prioritise watching microbudget self-distributed horror films in my relaxo time as a way of not supporting gross major corporate economic models. It's one of the best things I've ever done, and has fundamentally rewired what I think of as "good" film.

this is extra frustrating because blumhouse (the studio that produced obsession and did some work on backrooms) got big off microbudget indie horror. the studio blew up after the success of paranormal activity, which was itself directly inspired by the blair witch project
yeah dude the world is so different now. who can even remember the last time a low budget indie horror did numbers, a dc movie flopped, and a star wars movie turned out to be shit

I used to be really harsh on the low poly indie horror game scene but I've turned around on it- what's more horror than microbudget works made by people outside a big studio system? I also just needed to find the ones I found interesting.
