Great thing about working with other people like Vincent is sometimes they go behind your back and do crazy things you wouldn’t have done like port Wavelength to the Mac. 🤪 I still need to figure out how best we can officially support and maintain this. Focus! But in the meantime it’s open source.

What’s even cooler about this migration from #Instagram to Pixelfed is that I can use their APIs to auto crosspost from my micro.blog page to my “Instagram” (Pixelfed) account, yet it still stays on my site!

@manton @azizforamerica.com - fwiw, there is a Swift open-source framework that supports this here:

Changing settings left’n’right on Microdotblog today. If you’re reading this from Mastodon and my account suddenly vanishes in the next couple days, it’s because I started using my briandigtal.com domain as my user name… I haven’t figured it out fully just yet, so I’m unsure if you’ll even see this.

Achievement of the weekend was refining my rss feed to show micro posts as titleless posts in the micro. blog timeline. Had it working last night, but fully rebuilt it today as I broke something with … #indieweb #microdotblog

Ignore that last reply, the links accidentally went to GitHub’s Bluesky profile. The repos are: microdotblog/microblog-mac and microdotblog/microblog-react.

I am increasingly using #Microdotblog to publish out across Bluesky, Mastodon, Threads and other places. And using #surfsocial to browse content from the same, in one UX – plus blogs, plus podcasts, plus RSS. Open Social Web FTW! about.surf.social

Is how I do posting too convoluted? Can one join the worlds of RSS and blogs with ActivityPub & microblogging?Well, here’s my write up of how I’ve used the #MicroDotBlog features to import all of my Mastodon posts via RSS into my blog ... https://blog.bmannconsulting.com/2022/12/11/is-how-i.html

So it turns out #MicroDotBlog retroactively imports your feed. See screenshot from my blog of my #ToolsForThoughtRocks account posts imported. And hashtags link to a hashtag search on the server on which the account is - pretty cool. https://social.coop/tags/MicroDotBlog

And that mess of a post isn’t an example of cross posting, but rather typos in posting this to @microdotblog. It’s all PEBKAC.

I did almost tag it for cross posting, which would have cross posted from BOTH networks.

Yes my setup is too complicated, thanks for asking.

I discovered yesterday that the @MicroDotBlog desktop MacOS app has support for importing a data export of your Instagram account.

I’m working my way through importing a chunk of photos at a time. Instagram was iOS only, so my account starts with my ... (...)

well, it displays correctly on the blog, messing with the JSON Feed so that it makes it to @microdotblog and on to Twitter correctly :) https://blog.bmannconsulting.com/may13-online-homebrew-website-club/

This is not one of those “quitting Facebook” posts, but I did want write about using Instagram and cross posting to FB, after I post to @ATBRecipes or via @microdotblog https://blog.bmannconsulting.com/on-instagram-off-facebook/

Being intentional about your information diet is important.

My _one_ reservation with @microdotblog is that you can’t easily move off it.

But: it supports standards like MicroPub and ActivityPub. I can even use the iOS app to post to my own site.

I’m going to work on making apps that support these standards easier to host.

I’ve also had several people ask me about my recommendation for what tools to use. My own Micropub setup is too complicated ;)

I’ve been recommending @microdotblog — use it for short & long form content & it can automate cross posting to Twitter, Medium, even LinkedIn!
March 6, 2025 at 11:37 PM
I sort of did that manually for @SPADEbuilders website front page https://spade.builders & been looking at @microdotblog to maybe “power” this.

Fits into my thinking on distributed social & why I’ve been looking at ActivityPub/ ActivityStreams.
March 6, 2025 at 11:14 PM
Very interesting! @microdotblog now has support for ActivityPub, which means a certain level of interoperability with Mastodon https://manton.org/2018/11/07/microblog-mastodon.html -- experimenting what that means for enabling my self-hosted posts.
March 6, 2025 at 11:10 PM
OK! I now have 1) micropub clients talking to 2) a micropub glue server, 3) pushing to git, pushing to Netlify, which builds my Jekyll blog, producing feeds that 4) @microdotblog cross posts to Twitter, Medium, and LinkedIn. Full write up here https://t.co/umjPxHHbcx
