do u think they have a micronutrient, somehow

This consensus document about micronutrient deficiency and recs by disease/disorder is absolutely phenomenal. 🧪

Reminder that #SoilHealth and plant #microbiome are major players in food quality and nutrition - it is about a lot more than the genetics of crops.

A healthy #FoodSystem & #PublicHealth demands moving on from #IndustrialAgriculture

Study finds certain fungi boost the micronutrient content of bread wheat
New research in Plants, People, Planet indicates that bread wheat's micronutrient content can be increased by cultivating it with a specific type of fungus.

At least broccoli is micronutrient rich — cauliflower is basically just fart-flavored water wrapped in fiber (and the fiber disappears when it’s pureed)

this is my stance at work but unfortunately it's all about vitamin this micronutrient that
yeah in general food stuff should lead with "delicious" but everyone does the weird fiber missionary thing

Also, as if genetics isn't altered by exogenous environmental factors, stimuli across generations. Sudden increase in average height in both the developed and developing worlds, owing to a protein- and micronutrient-rich diet and hygiene around defecation practices (Science of sanitation), is proof

I love when wellness people are like "YOU HAVE TO USE HIMALAYAN SALT BECAUSE IT HAS MICRONUTRIENTS" and you're like hey also this salt is good because scientists added a particular micronutrient that science proves we need more of to prevent this specific disease they're like "OMG THAT IS POISON"

think i just gotta do a simple marinated chicken with an ungodly amount of a crunchy green thing tonight, must be low on some micronutrient

One third of people worldwide have at least one micronutrient deficiency. National surveys provide cross-sectional data, but inferring causality between deficiency and disease is difficult. Read the latest Nutrition in Medicine article: nej.md/4ith0um

Wildfires can turn harmless minerals in soils into contaminants, research shows
In the wake of a wildfire, a vital micronutrient can become a toxic heavy metal—and could eventually make its way into groundwater.

Jasmin Rees PhD chapter as a paper just out at the AJHG @ajhgnews.bsky.social, with Sergi Castellano, who first envisioned the study. Jas investigated signatures of human local genetic adaptation in hundreds of micronutrient-associated genes.

So excited to share our new @ash.hematology.org iron deficiency diagnosis guidelines

TLDR:

Adults

They’re obsessed with protein, fat, and micronutrient intake, but then when it’s time to electrify it and use it to make thoughts, all of a sudden it’s “oh, no, use electric sand crystals outside my body instead”
Saw an AI bro refer to "brain-only writers" lol

Regional malnutritions as well. If you lived in a place with iodine deficient soil, you would just have iodine deficiency—entire swathes of the world had goiter. We live in a time of micronutrient plenty. Everything is supplemented as a matter of course.

this is my reasoning every time I need a specific craving. well it has a micronutrient. a cryptonutrient if you will. no one knows what it is but I need it

You can survive for $180/mo on Costco hot dogs, plus a multivitamin to make up for micronutrient deficiencies

Hello bluesky! I am so happy to share that some of my Antarctic work was published today in BG: bg.copernicus.org/articles/21/.... This paper is seven (!) years in the making! Zinc is an essential micronutrient for phytoplankton, and is uptaken rapidly (biogeochem modelers please take note!)
High metabolic zinc demand within native Amundsen and Ross sea phytoplankton communities determined by stable isotope uptake rate measurements
Abstract. Zinc (Zn) is an essential micronutrient for most eukaryotic phytoplankton. Zn uptake by phytoplankton within the euphotic zone results in nutrient-like dissolved Zn (dZn) profiles with a lar...
