The microphysics scheme referenced here has been mainly developed by my long-time collaborator @tedmwx.bsky.social of NSSL and we will be working together to use the disdrometer observations collected during the field phase as “ground truth” to validate these improvements. Looking forward to it!
Purdue University will also aid in developing an improved microphysical parameterization that better accounts for melting hail that sheds water. With this, they hope to understand how hail melt and shedding can change in different storm types and environments.
