Every time I deal with 3d printed minis that have been prefaced with "Check these out, these are JUST AS GOOD" as the injected molded minis, I get disappointed the moment I go past the basecoating stage. Washing/Drybrushing always reveals the layered awful microtexture SOMEWHERE on the mini.

It works because the first layer of a 3d print generally takes on the geometry of whatever it's printed on so precisely that the microtexture on the plate itself is transferred perfectly to the surface of the print.

It has to do with some of the weirder properties of light at very small scales.
