the only time I got the counselors at my summer camp in '02 I discussed afghanistan and the leadup to iraq w/ Actually Mad (normally v kind and respectful to my precocious middle school self) was when I pointed out that W transparently did not 'keep us safe' - a line that miffs me to this day
While the attack was a disaster, in time, the far greater & more impactful disaster was the simple fact that *Republicans were in charge when it happened*, which took a national tragedy & spun it into decades of national lawlessness, violence, shame, & alienation of allies.
