Points across the night makes better Mini-Z drivers than heats and one main. A single main rewards the one clean run. Points punish the heat where you gave up on lap two. Which does your club run, and be honest about which one made you better.

Been saving screenshots of weird printing stuff since finishing my previous letterpress collage zine (also using a "Look!" printing block in the title: "Look!! Here's your unusual letterpress blocks invitation to joy", as a collage-of-interesting-visuals series hint) zinebakery.com/homemade-zin...

You cut the body posts long so the shell went on without a fight, and it sits a few millimetres proud. On a 150 gram car that is ride height for everything above the chassis. Beginners leave the posts full length. Racers trim to the lowest clip position that clears and re-drill.

Most Mini-Z brushless setups run more motor timing than a club layout can use. Timing buys top end you never reach on a twelve foot straight, and charges you heat and pack life for it. Wind it back a step and see whether lap time notices. Usually it does not.

Out of the hairpin you hear a grinding buzz and the car stops pulling. Body off, three teeth gone from the spur, night over. Tire compound costs you tenths. Mesh costs you the meeting. How to set it and hear it going wrong.

You pulled the Mini-Z bearings, wiped them on a rag, re-oiled them, and they still sound dry on the bench. A rag only cleans the outside. Beginners wipe and re-oil. Racers run a cheap ultrasonic cleaner, dry them, then oil, and get another season out of the same bearings.

The thing that decides whether you are still racing in two years is not the car. It is how far away the nearest Mini-Z club night is. Forty minutes is sustainable. Ninety is a hobby you quit politely. How far do you drive, and at what distance would you stop?

You are about to buy your first proper chassis and every thread just says MR-04 because it is newer. Newer is not a reason. Parts on the shelf at your club, the spec class rules, and what you already own decide this one.

You set mesh on the bench and by the third heat the drivetrain is noisy again. Pull the pinion and look at where the grub screw sits. On the round of a Mini-Z motor shaft it walks under load. Beginners tighten harder. Racers rotate the pinion until the screw finds the flat.

Bad marshaling costs the field more time than any Mini-Z setup mistake this season. A car dropped facing the boards, or set down mid-track off the line, hands back a position someone spent four laps earning. On the line, pointed the way it was going, wheels down.

Tires right, springs sorted, T-plate matched to the grip, and the car is still lazy turning in with nothing left on the sheet to change. That is front-end geometry, and on a Mini-Z it is not a turnbuckle. It is a part.

You glued a fresh set of Mini-Z rears and the car is off in one direction on every corner. A 0.1g pocket scale costs about the same as a tire set. Beginners match a pair by eye out of the bag. Racers weigh both halves before gluing and log ballast in grams instead of in vibes.

Everyone posts what they upgraded. Nobody posts what they never got round to. What is still box stock on your Mini-Z after a full season, and are you slightly defensive about it? Mine is the servo, and I have talked myself out of replacing it four times.

You have run practice at club night for a month and your name is still not on the sheet, because you are not ready yet. The room you are hiding from is either driving or marshaling. Nobody is watching.

You want more front ride height and sharper turn-in, and you are about to order a harder front spring. Try preload first. A 0.1mm shim under the front spring on the king pin changes ride height and initial bite without changing rate. Beginners buy springs. Racers shim first.

Nobody gets fast at this from video. Every quick Mini-Z driver I know was taught by one specific person at their club, usually in about four sentences spread over a season. Who was yours, and what is the one thing they said that actually stuck?

The motor is too hot to touch and the pack that gave you five minutes now falls off at four. Before buying more motor, find how much of the one you own reaches the track. Roll-down test first, then mesh, bearings, diff.

You want one tooth shorter for a tight Mini-Z layout and the only pinion you own is the one on the motor. A 64 pitch set covering 6T to 11T costs less than a spec motor. Beginners buy the single pinion a thread recommended. Racers own the range and gear to the track.

Newer chassis do not win club nights. Familiar ones do. What is the oldest car still taking heats where you race? Ours is an MR-03 rebuilt so many times there may be nothing original left in it, and it still beats cars two generations newer. Post the year.

You moved from an RCP club to high-grip carpet and now the car wants to swap ends everywhere. That is motor position before it is springs. RM and MM decide where the mass sits, and the mount sets your wheelbase too.

You spin in the same spot every night and it is not a corner. Look at where the RCP tiles join. The seam has less grip and a small step. Beginners drive the geometric line straight over it. Fast drivers shift turn-in a few centimetres so the direction change lands on a tile.

Buying a third T-plate before you have run the one on the car with a screw left out is backwards. Screw count changes the effective flex of a plate you already own, for free, between heats. Does anyone actually tune that way, or do we all just buy plates?

Do you maintain on a schedule or when something breaks? I say schedule and then do neither until a bearing starts screaming. Does anyone genuinely track nights run on their diff and their bearings, or are most of us running things until they stop?
