Description - Challenging behaviors such as aggression and self-injury are a major driver of intensive services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, yet current assessment methods rely heavily on time-consuming manual coding of video and audio. The COMPAS project aims to develop interpretable multimodal AI tools that automatically identify and predict challenging behaviors and their early vocal and motor precursors using synchronized clinical video and audio data. By enabling earlier detection and reducing clinician burden, COMPAS has the potential to improve safety, expand access to expert behavioral assessment, and support more proactive, data-driven care.
