Looking forward to work with #modemmanager upstream on improving dual SIM support in our #linuxmobile stack: https://nlnet.nl/project/Linux-MultiSIM/ .

Thanks a lot to @NGIZero for supporting this!

I keep posting these until it gets boring: #cellbroadcast received yesterday on a #oneplus6t running #phosh , #cellbroadcastd and #modemmanager . Just showed up, no fiddling, just using distro packages.

Although the project finished some months ago: Thanks to @NGIZero for funding work on this.

We've released a new version of mobile-broadband-provider info. Besides updated provider info and more #cellbroadcast channel information we also added emergency number information:

so there's glibc, which is gnu libc implementation

then there's glib, which is gtk library

then there's gcc-libs, which is some compiler stuff whatever

then there's glibmm, which is gtk library but for c++

then there's libmm-glib, which is "ModemManager library"

not confusing in the slightest

DBUS is a very complex thing, it's possible to use qdbusviewer6 to get a GUI view of all the things registered with DBUS. KDE talks to modemmanager with it. There's a CLI for it, but it's weirdly less useful than wmctrl for most things. There's no way to tell kwin "minimize window N" for example.

If you have a Notebook with an embedded WWAN device (GSM/LTE/5G) and want to quickly send a SMS message, there is a way to do this with mmcli (ModemManager CLI):

1st: List the available modem devices:

$ mmcli list

2nd: Sent the SMS via an available modem (in my case moden no. 0):

$ mmcli -m […]

Catching a real world and *unexpected* #cellbroadcast message revealed some minor bugs in #phosh and its mobile settings but those were easy to spotted and fixes will land for 0.49. Overall #modemmanager, #cbd, and #phosh picked the message up as expected (and the channel setting worked as well):

Nice. Since the corresponding changes in #calls landed too this will allow us to enable emergency calls by default in #phosh (as of now the feature needs to be toggled on by the user in mobile settings).

On vacation for a couple of days. My Mastodon account as well as my blog will be considerably quieter for the forseeable future 🙂🏖️ (And II have proper IPv6 on the roaming network here!)

does anyone know how to trick modemmanager into thinking a SIM card exists

Just for completeness: this was also the first time I received a real world (thus not self generated) message on a OnePlus6 so the #qualcomm parts of #modemmanager work too 😅

@devrtz @NGIZero @snwh #debian's experimental distribution now has #modemmanager / #libqmi snapshots to test this more easily. These versions also include support for qmi based modems as found in the #op6, #pixel3a and similar devices

Switching #libqmi from gtk-doc to #gidocgen makes doc generation almost 5 times faster and it's less manual work when adding new #qmi services or messages. Hopefully we can land this. https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mobile-broadband/libqmi/-/merge_requests/409

fwupd for firmware updates, plymouth for boot animation, open-iscsi, lxd, cloud-init, snapd, modemmanager… generally stuff not applicable on a server in general, in a VM, or in my use case, or that uses a lot of space (like snap)

@Larvitz

You could have just waited until the script was included in ModemManager, right? And why was the feature removed from ModemManager in the first place, if it actually worked? 🤔
