Out here in the Mojave, you find the weirdest things. This is one of them — someone actually stacked rocks into a little monument around a pile of poop. I don't know who did this, or why, but I respect the commitment to... whatever this is.

It covers approximately 40,000 km² (or up to 120,000 km², depending on ecological definitions). It is the smallest and driest of the North American deserts. It is characterized by landscapes of basins, mountain ranges, and dry lake beds. The region experiences a wide temperature range, with scorching summers and cool winters.
