The largest, sub-annual temperature dataset from archaeological mollusc shells yet.
Over 120 records provided a seasonal assessment of the climatic conditions around the 8.2k event on a scale directly relevant to human behaviour.

I plan to self-identify not as a lamp but as a live bivalve mollusc from class B waters entering the EU for depuration.
(maybe I should research depuration first)

A remarkable new species discovery - the Mauritian Tidal Trapdoor Spider Idioctis marevallum lives in fossilized worm and mollusc burrows in inter-tidal coralline rocks (it also engenders the sort of spider headlines we like to see!). www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
Spider found in Mauritius like discovering 'hidden treasure'
The new species of trapdoor spider is discovered by scientists from Durrell working in Mauritius.

9/15 On rare occasions, Shark Bay dolphins have been observed lifting large mollusc shells out of the water.
We know relatively little about this behaviour, since documenting it often depends on someone happening to witness such an event.

4. Eocene- Basilosaurus features, but being a mollusc-focused shallows hunter it's not actually the main threat to humans- that's the gigantic sea snake paleophis, plus some early ancestors of megalodon
3. cretaceous- it's hell's aquarium, innit

The other molluscs travel with mussel Clams, oysters, scallops, and cockles are molluscs, the same shellfish group as mussel, and they share tropomyosin, so a child allergic to one mollusc is often allergic to others.

Chaetoderma shenloong is a worm-shaped mollusc that lives around cold seeps. It obtains its nutrients from symbiotic microbes that can convert surrounding chemicals into food.
Those microbes are housed in special organelles called "dracosphera" - i.e. "Dragon Ball" 🧪

A multilamellar organelle for chemosymbiosis in an aplacophoran mollusc adapted to anoxic cold seep sediment - Nature Communications
Animals living in the deep sea often form symbiotic partnerships with chemosynthetic bacteria. Here authors discover a multilamellar organelle in the worm-mollusc Chaetoderma shenloong containing bacteria and name it dracosphera (‘dragon ball’).

🎃 Happy International Day of the Sea Slug!

Meet the Warty Doris, one of Sussex's strangest seabed residents. With its wart-covered body and bizarre spiral egg cases, it looks more Halloween monster than marine mollusc.

Nature is wonderfully weird. 👻🌊

The host mollusc burrows into anoxic mud to supply hydrogen sulfide to symbiotic bacteria. Symbiont can respire anaerobically, but prefers aerobic respiration. But the host can only respire aerobically. By enclosing symbionts in dracosphera, the host can keep the available oxygen for its own use.

Somewhere 40 cm under oxygen-free mud in the South China Sea, a shell-less wormy mollusc ditched most of its gut and now farms sulfur bacteria inside bubbles with 20+ membrane walls. New organelle, named "dracosphera" after Dragon Ball. In @natcomms.nature.com *burp* Peak nerd. I approve.

What did I do today? Well, I spent several hours researching linen-making and sea-salt production via evaporation for a TTRPG module. Also I had to read up on hemocyanin in mollusc blood for the same reason. You know, the usual. Just a normal, typical day.
