2/5 Monensin and narasin are ionophores. At toxic doses they can disrupt ion balance, damage mitochondria, and injure cardiac and skeletal muscle. In horses, monensin poisoning has produced delayed cardiac myopathy and fibrosis months after exposure.

The meat is not “GMO”, it’s estradiol which is carcinogenic, and the antibiotic Monensin speeds anti-microbial resistance superbugs.

Since mad cow it’s a completely traceable supply chain.

People dropping in the US, food safety abandonment left and right

Plus the safer meat is high quality

I've been following the awful news on the deaths of 70 horses on an Oklahoma ranch because their feed was accidentally contaminated with the antibiotic monensin. It is fed to cattle but is toxic for horses. Please, horse owners, buy your feed from an equine-only feed mill.🐎 1/2

Reading this thread I can say we used Miltenyi cytokine catch reagents with good effect. Stim with specific peptides, wait 3-4hrs, stain and sort. No brefeldin/monensin, no fixation. PMA/I seems rather harsh to me (and non-specific - I am probably missing the point?).

⚠️ Our scans are recorded in USA ⚠️Moms Across America sent 42 fast food samples from America’s top 10 chains to an independent lab. 8 out of 10 — 80% — tested positive for veterinary antibiotics not approved for human consumption. Monensin was found in Taco Bell, Dunkin’, Wendy’s, Domino’s, Burger King, and McDonald’s. Narasin was found in Wendy’s, Dunkin’, Domino’s, and Starbucks. Nicarbazin — an animal contraceptive and antiparasitic that has been prohibited from use — was found in a Chick-fil-A chicken sandwich. Only two chains came back clean: Chipotle and Subway.Monensin is not approved by the FDA for human use. In humans, it can cause rhabdomyolysis — a breakdown of muscle tissue that damages the heart and kidneys. Overdoses have slowly poisoned and killed cattle. The lead scientist at the Health Research Institute warned: “The FDA’s acceptable intake levels focus on acute poisoning. But when people eat fast food daily, there’s a concern about chronic poisoning due to accumulation.” 85 million Americans eat fast food every day. The FDA’s response to the findings: nothing. No investigation. No recalls. No regulatory action. 80% of America’s most popular fast food chains tested positive for antibiotics that were never meant for humans. The FDA didn’t move.Scanned on the Exposr app

It looks like it assists in the absorption and utilization of nutrients in ruminants.

(The screencap is for one type of antibiotics - my understanding is that it generalizes, though the specific mechanisms may vary. The linked article goes into detail.)

A practical FDA/USDA reform: create an institutional-food residue surveillance program for DoD, BOP, VA and other federal food systems.
Randomly test meat for monensin, narasin, nicarbazin, salinomycin and lasalocid.

1/5 The emerging question isn’t whether ionophores can be toxic—they can. It’s whether the U.S. is measuring total dietary exposure well enough across monensin, narasin, salinomycin, lasalocid and related residues, including levels far below legal tolerances.
August 30, 2026 at 3:15 PM
There’s a federal food-safety gap worth examining: military and prison food is heavily regulated for procurement and quality, but I could not find a public requirement for routine lot-level testing of monensin, narasin, nicarbazin, salinomycin or lasalocid below normal residue limits.
August 30, 2026 at 3:21 PM
2/5 Standards differ. Canada sets monensin at 50 ppb in cattle muscle and narasin at 50 ppb in chicken muscle. The EU’s 2026 narasin limit is 50 ppb in all wet chicken tissues. U.S. rules instead use target-tissue tolerances, such as 480 ppb narasin in chicken abdominal fat.
August 30, 2026 at 3:15 PM
3/5 That does NOT show that trace food residues cause the same damage in humans. WHO’s monensin ADI is 10 µg/kg body weight/day, derived from a 2-year rat NOAEL of 1.14 mg/kg/day with a 100-fold safety factor. Narasin’s ADI is 5 µg/kg/day.

We are severely lacking cellular research.
August 30, 2026 at 2:57 PM
1/5 A private lab reported monensin in 6/10 fast-food samples, narasin in 4/10, and nicarbazin in 1/10. But every reported concentration for those 3 compounds was below the lab’s stated 2 µg/kg testing concentration. That makes the claim less settled.

The 400th entry is for MonD (bioregistry.io/mite:MITE000...), a cytochrome P450 monooxydase in the monensin BGC (bioregistry.io/mibig:BGC000...). It hydroxylizes the C-26 of dehydroxydemethylmonensin, leading to the intermediate demethylmonensin.
