I've always liked the headcanon that moonkeepers are genetically closer to the original meracydian version of miqo'te. From before they split off into keepers and seekers post Allagan enslavement/exodus across the frozen sea.

He really wasn't super into questioning his religion, since his parents dropped him off with a friend in Gridania shortly before their deaths... and Gridania being Gridania coupled with moonkeepers being more isolated kinda deterred any curiosity he might've had
