Granite is the theme for St John the Baptist North Bovey, from the nave floor memorials to the pillars made of great slabs of moorstone. #StoneworkSunday

Digging into a Bernard Taylor I know little about. Where are my fellow Taylor fans? Loved Sweetheart Sweetheart, The Moorstone Sickness, and The Reaping. Really surprised he hasn't gotten more (or better) film adaptations, since his books seem made for that kind of thing.

This stone has been perched on a moorstone on the slopes of Kilmar for a very long time: observe the erosion shadow beneath it.
It is also a beautiful eye-catcher in a place with many other boulders.
Ravens stand on it, and rabbits gather here too, as can be seen. Perhaps people did too?

Glad to hear you enjoyed it, I love a bit of Bernard Taylor! If you've not already read The Godsend, The Moorstone Sickness or The Reaping by him, I'd really recommend them too.

The Godsend is really good, if you've not read that one. (There is a film adaptation of it too, but I've never seen it.) Nice to see you loved The Moorstone Sickness too - for some reason, it doesn't often seem to get a mention and I adored it.

A terrific body of work. His novels are good - excellent, too. #BernardTaylor

I highly recommend 'Ghost Wall' by Sarah Moss. Brief but intense. Long but brilliant, Robert Holdstock's 'Mythago Wood' can be classed as folk horror just as much as fantasy. Bernard Taylor's 'The Reaping' and 'The Moorstone Sickness' are a bit pulpy but very effective and a lot of fun to read.

Moorstone Sickness has a special place bc it was the first one I read and feels folk horror, but I think Sweetheart Sweetheart is stronger overall? More classic I guess.
