The Department for Education has failed to give any answers on how it has followed up on a high-profile safeguarding investigation at a school within the Mossbourne Federation, in a development Hackney council commission described as a “critical failure of accountability” on academies.
October 20, 2026 at 11:27 AM
Among the questions the commission had asked the DfE were its views on Sir Alan’s findings about the application of a “no excuses” behaviour management policy at Mossbourne Victoria Park Academy, and whether the trust’s spending of £400k+ on legal fees had been a good use of public money.

Mossbourne Academy? Probably just a further development of emotional abuse as behaviour management.

Nothing about cycling in their behaviour policy (available on their website), only in their “transition booklet” sent to all new students

Hi, can you share the Mossbourne form of words or document where they state that policy? I assume it must be written down somewhere? Seems outrageous! Thanks

The nationalcollege.com is NOT the school's website. I may be wrong, but I did NOT see a link in the school's website to nationalcollege.com.

And page 36 of nationalcollege.com/mossbourne-v..., first three bullet points, is (I'm controlling my language ... with difficulty 😡) ... "just gross".

@hackneycycling.org.uk Hello LCC Hackney!
My kid starts soon at Mossbourne Victoria Park and I just realise that they block any kid from cycling to school unless they have a Bikeability Lvl3!!
Any thoughts?

There’s growing evidence that Mossbourne Academy - the template for strict schools whose head went on to lead Ofsted - is an unhealthy place. Here’s one of the news stories:

One of the reviews into Mossbourne last year relied on self reporting only. No visits to the school occurred to corroborate. Not saying all is ok and ‘nothing to see here’ but worth being aware of.

I’ll look at that piece. I’ve seen/heard (it’s a local-ish school) lots about how tense the atmosphere is and swerved wide of it when looking at schools. Kids wetting themselves from fear/not being let out of class, much shouting. Their own investigation didn’t gloss over it.

The furore around Mossbourne academy was an absolute classic of the genre. Had that school been outside of zone 2, let alone outside the M25, no story.
