A night photo of the star clouds of the Milky Way rising up into the star filled sky over Mount Rainier, Washington State. A huge stratovolcano with snow and glaciers covering it's summit and lower slopes, with darker rock exposed on ridges and peaks below the summit. The foreground is silhouetted tall dark clusters of pine trees. The sky behind the mountain is slightly brighter low down because of distant light pollution with a faint soft gold glow. The star clouds of the Milky Way rise vertically away from the left flank of the mountain in yellow/gold, brighter than anything else in the sky. Some of the star cloud is obscured by darker dust lanes between us and the background stars, but still far off in the plane of our galaxy we live inside.
