The association of Muin with the Vine is much older than the modern Tree Calendar. Medieval Irish scholars linked the Ogham letter Muin with the vine, though its meaning is uncertain. This association was therefore not invented when the modern calendar was created in the 1940s.

In the context of Druidry, "Muin" refers to a specific Ogham symbol, often associated with the blackberry plant. It's also the name of a Druid, as seen in the story "Druids Land: Muin Firedance and the Shadow Demons". The Ogham, an ancient Celtic alphabet, uses symbols to represent trees, plants, and other natural elements. In the Druid tradition, each Ogham symbol is associated with specific meanings and energies. Muin, representing the blackberry, is linked to themes of gathering, harvest, and introspection. Muin is also featured in the Green Man Tree Oracle. The oracle provides insights and guidance associated with each tree or plant represented by an Ogham symbol. Muin's message is "Gather in what is dearest to you". In folklore, blackberry is linked with the faeries. In France, for example, eating blackberries used to be considered taboo as it was kept as food for the faeries alone. Still today, in some parts of Britain, it is tradition that the berries should not be picked after Samhain, as they belong to the fae and should not be touched. The tangled, thorny nature of blackberry bushes can be seen as a physical representation of the "thin veil" between worlds, making them a symbolic gateway or a place where spirits might pass through. Respect for the blackberry bush, offering bounty in duality with prickly thorns, be careful while you’re gathering, and leave some for the faeries. The leaves boiled in tea are supposed to be good remedy for sore throat. All hail The Green Man.
