The multistable dynamics of the Atlantic Ocean circulation pose a central problem in climate physics, because instabilities of the flows can have large climate impacts. A Review in Nature Reviews Physics unifies much of the model behaviour that has been found. go.nature.com/49HW9kQ ⚛️🌊🧪

To me it’s fascinating he didn’t realize the switch occurred not in the physical world - but in his mind.

I don’t think I succeeded as a vision scientist at explaining him the concept of multistable perception. But maybe it’s great he now thinks his Batman can do something it couldn’t do before.

Come see Nishal’s poster today at #cosyne2025 (Session 2, 2-051)!

We’ve added a per-trial inferred bias to LFADS, boosting interpretability by turning multistable dynamics into contextual ones. Less murky, more meaningful with many practical applications such as denoising data.

Group dynamics shape contagion onsets and multistable active phases under collective reinforcement
Group-based reinforcement can induce discontinuous transitions from inactive to active phases in higher-order contagion models. However, these results are typically obtained on static interaction stru...

Can we guarantee the behavior of an RNN to generalize well for infinite time? 🧠♾️
Similar to universal approximation theorems in deep nets, for systems that forget everything eventually, there are guarantees. We prove it for multistable systems!

SUMMARY: don’t ignore logic when from GRN -> ODEs

Although we can’t offer you a way to choose a priori, we can design experiments that infer the GRN logic used by cells undergoing a cell state transition!
