Asia's really doing a number on England's ancient woodlands these days, with non-native invasive species: Ash Dieback rife in the canopy, Muntjac abounding in the understorey, and now Asian Hornets buzzing around.
Ash Dieback in Monks Wood NNR. Hectares of the canopy completely dead, but dense thickets below are thriving in the light.

Coming through Westerleigh on the train, just saw two majestic Brown Hares sat together in a field and then about 30 seconds later, a lone Muntjac inspecting a tilled field.

We had a 3-legged Muntjac living in & around our garden for 2 years (it had a badly damaged, withered front leg). We called it Oscar, after a certain athlete. We were amazed it survived 2 winters - largely on our beetroot, roses, and maple trees 😬

And found a skeleton deer in the bracken.
A nice place to go.

Formosan macaques have been reported to associate with muntjac deer, including an observation of a troop briefly grooming a muntjac, and a juvenile attempting to ride one!
