Handy trick for those toiling in the UNIX mines. Instead of:

1. Running `ps aux | grep java`
2. Copying the PID
3. Running `mycommand ... PID`

Use pidof! Just run `mycommand ... $(pidof java)`.

That's a csh thing — csh didn't support the Bourne syntax for redirecting arbitrary descriptors, so if for example you wanted stdout and stderr to go somewhere different you had to kluge it:
(mycommand >outfile) &> errfile

The '&' is because it was thought you only needed it for background jobs.

It is, but the meaning is different! Redirections are processed left to right, so

mycommand > foo 2>&1

and

mycommand 2>&1 > foo

do different things! Whereas there's only one possible ordering for

mycommand 2>&1 | othercommand

Neat way to use env vars from a .env file:

bash -c 'set -a; source .env; "$@"' -- mycommand args...

This will run mycommand with env vars set from .env

My end goal is to have this:

My = Decider.define do
decide proc { [command, state] in [MyCommand(foo:), MyState(bar:)] } do
# custom block with access to command, state, foo and bar
end
end

#django nerds of Mastodon! Anyone know how to write a management command to accept arbitrary arguments? Ideally, something like this:

./manage.py mycommand --expected=argument --something-arbitrary -x -y -z

So `--expected-argument` is defined in `.add_arguments()`, but the other args are just […]
