Here, Naveena is explaining something to Tylor over lunch in Paris.

Naveena gave herself a moment to think by pouring each of them a glass of water. She was so used to having Keita around that she had to remember that it would appear weird to an outsider. “Well, first off, Death isn’t known for being a domain full of sweets and cheery pastels,” she began, setting the carafe down. “The beings in my domain are usually dark, scary things that serve as warnings. Not all of them, mind you, but enough to establish an aesthetic."

This is a snippet from book 2, but we might end up moving it to earlier in the story 🤔

“She’s not Naveena’s sister,” she said at last, thinking this could help clarify things. “She’s Death’s sister. War. Or one of the Wars, at least.” The answer brought Tylor up short. Why was he forever surprised by her blatant disregard of Christian theology when he’d certainly seen enough to know she was at least truthful from her own perspective? All he could manage in reply was a short, “Ah.” “And because she’s Strategy and Victory, we need her on our side,” Keita expanded. Naveena let out a breath and pulled out her phone. “Okay, fine. Let’s call her. She’ll at least be able to help you get some ears on the ground.”
