Three years ago, the JWST was launched on an Ariane 5 rocket! 🎉

To celebrate this anniversary, here's my all-time JWST observation that I processed: the star forming region N79 in the LMC! 🔭

Distance 160,000 light years
Diameter 1630 light years
Discovered Henize 1956
The starburst spikes are optical artifacts and appear because of the hexagonal symmetry of Webb's 18 primary mirrors. IE, it's caused by the design of the telescope.

Holy MOLY that first one of N79, a star-forming complex in a satellite galaxy of the Milky Way! That's a combo of X-rays from Chandra and infrared from JWST.

The Chandra observatory is adding a pop of pink to our day! X-ray light shines through these #NASAWebb images of merging galaxies and star-forming regions. Chandra released a collection of images that showcase how it complements other observatories: https://chandra.harvard.edu/photo/2025/cosmic/ 🔭 🧪

Meet N79: home to the Local Group’s newest super star cluster

Super star clusters are rarities now: so late in cosmic history.

But over in the Large Magellanic Cloud, we've just discovered a new one thanks to JWST and ALMA combined.

Meet N79: home to the Local Group's newest super star cluster
There are only four super star clusters in all the Local Group: rarities today. Here's what the youngest, the just-discovered N79, shows us.

N79 is gigantic: it spans around 1,700 light-years, and it has a star formation rate superior (by a factor of 2!) to another well-known star-forming region, 30 Doradus! 🔭

21/ "Starting with the iPhone 12, Apple smartphones technically support 5G, and some models support the n79 band used in Russia. But having a suitable antenna is not enough: Apple needs to test the network of a specific operator and activate it through the iOS settings.
