Process is irreversible, but the helmet+wearer can adjust their size via nanotech infusions to suit the job they’re assigned to

When I say full coverage, that’s what I want. Some one needs to figure out a way to infuse latex suits with nanotech or something so the suit knows to stretch and seal itself completely when this is the only opening.

"nanotech"? What, you mean ordinary everyday computer chips? Calling it nanotech is technically correct, but I feel it adds a layer of 'woo' to something that's just standard computer security practice. Never mind the intentional security backdoors, governments maintain databases of 0-day exploits

Have to agree. And were it not for the ubiquitous nanotech, not unlike staring outside the window.

The past few decades have had a virtual "Armageddon roulette" between nuclear war, overpopulation, Y2K, the turn of the millennium, the WMD panic, fears of runaway nanotech, Peak Oil, the 2012 phenomenon, climate change, birthrate decline, and the AI "singularity."

Albany NanoTech shows how sustained public investment, shared infrastructure, industry partnerships, and workforce development can turn a regional semiconductor cluster into a strategic asset for U.S. technological leadership and national security, write CSIS experts.

according to science, it is impossible for genetic proteins to jump between species, you would need a BSL4/3 lab and mRNA/CRISPR/nanotech for that to happen

I don't keep up with Beta Canon much, but I like the idea that there's no one single origin of Borg, they have evolved multiple times in multiple places throughout the history, a lot like humanoids. Also it's possible that the nanotech helped them survive in harsh conditions but then altered them.

btw when I say "arbitrary biology-derived wet nanotech" I mean like full biotech technology stack, like growing spaceships from CAD files using some concatenation of coral polyps, human++ neurons and engineered vacuum-safe chlorophyll, not merely CRISPR++

U'd have to be nuts to trust anything involving US hardware/software. Obviously US equipment has backdoors for spying agencies. It's too easy with nanotech. US can issue "National Security Letter" and force US corps to secretly create backdoors.

Everyone hates Mondays, especially when there is no coffee in sight.

This includes brilliant scientists unintentionally creating nanotech AI horrors.

Idk why but I’m highly entertained by the scenario of guy in his 40s who looks more like he should be retired getting some of his spunk back after serious science wife uses him as a guinea pig for a nanotech therapy so he tries to use ✨ the smoulder ✨ on her but fails lol.
Also, it interests literally no one except me but I need to find the thumbnails for that short Frozen Teardrop comic I was planning. Need to draw the crusty old fart trying to hit on Hilde and failing something awful lmao.

thinking about this and we're probably at the point where a bond villain type evil billionaire could use frontier LLMs to run a seriously civilization-altering bioweapon program, but the distance between that and arbitrary biology-derived wet nanotech will be measured in centuries at a minimum
