November whispers through river grass as cumulus clouds drift slowly past
The autumn sky glows soft and bright while fall exhales its last warm light
A quiet season with a gentle start of cooler days and a grateful heart

We have two foxes here! This is not a drill. I repeat, we have two foxes here! I have named the second one Hart, after one of the other local streets, but also because the fox is the animal of my h(e)art. 🦊💙

Would getting Barnacle Goose for my 2026Dundee150 list prove to be rather tricky?

📣 Reminder to Poets

Tomorrow (31st Oct) is the last day to enter the National Poetry Competition by @poetrysociety.org.uk

Alas, it is £9, so not the most accessible, but if it's on you can budget this year - don't forget to send it off!

Is there a word for when there is mass spider webbing over grass?

There's been a few years where I've thought a field full of dew or spittle and come to realise it's many spiders webs. I feel like there should be a name for it.

False frost webs or laced dew blankets?

#naturewriting
Thanks Jen, I have a few bits and pieces. I was delighted to see all the thousands of webs in amongst the grass and other plants in our fields this morning...and they weren't those awful fake ones that were being sold for Halloween! I'm not sure if you can see them in the attached?

Have you written a letter to nature recently?

One of my favourite prompts from this #DailyNature month that I'd like to carry over.

Are there any nature elves who might want to volunteer to write back?

Solstice rather than Santa letters?

RT to spread the word & comment yay or nay

In Ireland in the lead-up to Samhain in the hopes of some winter inspo for my next book (Hibernal). Today, a deserted farmhouse on the wild, bleak bog in wild, bleak rain and wind. #StormBoelo #Winter #naturewriting

Southwards, a skein of fifteen honking Canada Geese are flying against the dreary grey sky,

Two Ravens shouting to that same sky from the treetops,

A Grey Squirrel stands against a weathered picnic table which almost camouflages it,

Glimpses of blue sky between the heavy grey and lighter white clouds,

The brush of wet bramble leaves against the back of my hand as I pass up the narrow lane,

Arriving home just as the sun breaks free of the clouds, bathing me in light, if not warmth.

All Hallows Eve
Overcast sky
A dull reflection in the water
Happier with
The browns, yellows, and reds
Leaf meets water, soft sploosh
The ducks meander
Among the rafts
Of natures fallen factories

A Grey Wagtail lives up to its name from its perch atop a rock in Castle Mill Stream,

Further downstream I spot the Little Egret I have seen before, twice it flies away from me 🤔,

Three Long-tailed Tits darting round and around a tree as I pass by on my way home,
