For the first time in many years, I’m unable to get to the NCASC conference. Still, it’s not like there’ll be much to talk about.

A lovely moment at #NCASC24 yesterday. In a session on “managing demand” Anna Severwright challenged the term. A mutually respectful & productive conversation with speakers led to some clear commitments to find better language exploring the win-win of better lives & sustainable public services.

100 lovely people came together for tapas at @Lunya tonight. Welcomed to Liverpool by Sophie Erskine & @AnnaSeverwright who thanked @1adass @LGAcomms for the progress in including people who draw on support & launched resources to go further socialcarefuture.org.uk/noticeboard/ne…#ncasc2424

Causes for optimism from #NCASC24
- The platforming of those who draw on care and support
- Commitment to support young people to prepare for adulthood
- Focus on 'early action' as a way of investing to grow our places
- Recognition of the role that housing has in people living fulfilled lives

Last session of the week - excellent #NCASC24. Great conversations had here in Liverpool 😊

Reassuring that @jamesbullion.bsky.social is overseeing this, a lot at stake for councils & the people who depend on them for #socialcare #ncasc24

Strong indication from minister Kinnock that govt is trying to find “the right mechanism” to achieve cross-party consensus on #socialcare reform but emphasises this is not kicking the can down the road #ncasc24

This looks like minister Kinnock’s ‘big’ announcement in his speech to #ncasc24 this afternoon. £22 million. www.gov.uk/government/n...
Unpaid carers supported by £22.6 million investment in innovation

Good question at #ncasc24 on the value of yet another review/commission on #socialcare. Here’s a briefing, with @HealthFdn colleagues www.health.org.uk/publications...
Social care commissions: looking back to move forward
Adult social care in England desperately needs reform and investment. We look back at the approaches and proposals of previous similar reviews.

Good to hear @vicrayner.bsky.social spelling out calamitous consequences of budget changes on #socialcare. But how to reconcile with the happy-clappy hopey/changey vibe otherwise prevalent at #ncasc24? (And my goodness don’t we need some hope).

Excellent #ncasc24 session on collaboration across the lifespan reminds me of what we’ve lost after two decades of separating adult and children’s #socialcare

Liverpool is a lovely city #ncasc24

Sense of foreboding (providers crumbling) from @vicrayner. she asks for social care to be central to policy, for pay & conditions to be improved (most workforce strategy items r modest costs except the fair pay settlement), an industrial plan for care & fairness #ncasc24
