The Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) PATHFINDER, in it’s unrelenting efforts in the operation against crude oil theft and illegal bunkering activities, have dismantled 9 illegal refining sites in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni local government area of Rivers State. The illegal refining sites with 45 ovens, 30 reservoirs, and 75 dugout pits containing approximately 60,000 liters of suspected stolen crude oil, 80,000 litres of suspected illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), and 33,000 liters of kerosene, were destroyed on May 12, 2025 during a recent operation in the area.

The President General of notable Niger Delta socio-cultural group, the Orashi National Congress (ONC), Ambassador Comrade Emeni Ibe, JP, AP, has strongly condemned the killing of the Omoku Zone OSPAC Commander, Comrade Ozoemela Stephen Wokocha, who was reportedly shot dead alongside three women by unknown gunmen in Omoku Community, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area (ONELGA) of Rivers State.   In a statement issued on behalf of the leadership and members of the Congress, Ambassador Ibe described the attack as barbaric, senseless, and a serious threat to the peace and security of the Orashi region.

The African Democratic Congress, ADC, vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, has warned Nigerians against voting for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election. Amaechi claimed that Nigerians risk dying of poverty if they vote for Tinubu in 2027. Speaking during a meeting with stakeholders in Obigwe, Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Area, ONELGA, of Rivers State, the former governor said Nigerians have been suffering since Tinubu removed the fuel subsidy. The President General of the Orashi National Congress, ONC, Ambassador Comrade Emeni Ibe, JP, AP, has commended the Executive Chairman of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area, ONELGA, Sir Dr. Chukwu Shedrack Ogbogu, Esq., DSSRS, for his hands-on approach to governance.   In a statement, Amb. The Nigerian Army has recovered weapons and ammunition during a raid on a suspected criminal hideout in Rivers State. The intelligence-led operation was carried out by troops of Sector 4, Joint Task Force South-East, Operation UDO KA, on July 23, 2026. The operation targeted a forest hideout at Awara Community Waterside in Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area and along the Omoku-Ogbaku-Ndoni axis.

The Omoku Zonal Commander of the Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area Organised Security Planning and Advisory Committee (OSPAC), Ozomela Stephen Nwaocha, was fatally shot by unidentified gunmen in Rivers State on Tuesday evening. The attack, which occurred along Oba Road in Omoku, also claimed the lives of three women, while two others sustained gunshot injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment. The incident sent shockwaves through the community, triggering widespread panic and prompting residents to flee the area as businesses were hastily shut down in fear of further violence.

The police have confirmed the incident. The police command in Rivers State has confirmed the killing of Ozemela Nwaocha, the Omoku Zonal Commander of the Security Planning and Advisory Committee, by unidentified gunmen in the state. Ms Agabe, an assistant superintendent of police, said the incident occurred near Nawocha’s residence in Omoku, the headquarters of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area. According to her, preliminary investigations revealed that the gunmen confronted the vigilante leader and opened fire on him and three women who were with him.

The Nigerian Navy has intensified its efforts under Operation DELTA SENTINEL to combat illegal oil refining and crude oil theft in Rivers State, successfully deactivating reactivated sites and recovering over 126,000 litres of stolen petroleum products. This latest operation, carried out by personnel of Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) PATHFINDER, took place in the Egbema axis of Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Area, a known hotspot for illegal refining activities.

The Executive Chairman of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area (ONELGA), Sir Dr. Chukwu Shedrack Ogbogu, has announced the immediate disbandment of all local vigilante outfits operating within the local government area. The directive, which took effect on Friday, July 10, 2026, exempts only the OSPAC and the Forest Guard, which the chairman said have been duly recognized by law and cleared by the local council as well as relevant government security agencies to operate within the area.
