Bit of necrobotany, small teasel seen today #wildflowerhour

The temperature was above freezing today, melting yesterday's frost to leave this Small Teasel seed-head at Castor Hanglands NNR covered with droplets of moisture - subtly beautiful!

A perfectly skeletonised sunflower head catches the low sun above the frosty lawn as I think of the passing of the seasons.

Necrobotany today, with a peek at Downy Woundwort Stachys germanica in Oxfordshire. A fair few young plants seen as well as this year's finished stems. @bsbibotany.bsky.social

Still getting Big Meadow Searches done despite the heat. My necrobotany ID skills have improved a lot in recent weeks!

#WildflowerHour - the ones that got away ....
My visit to Sandwich Bay this week was sadly too late for the Sand Catchfly, Silene conica; Bedstraw Broomrape, Orobanche caryophyllacea; and Common Broomrape, which might be O. minor var pseudoamethystea, as it was beside some Sea Holly. #necrobotany

Light academia season is upon us, wherein we dress in linen and organza and organize afternoon tea parties in the campus grounds to practice the art of necrobotany and flirt with the people we temporarily bring back from the dead with the help of plants.

Jo demonstrates there’s no need for botanists to be hibernating. 100 spp/monad in December is certainly worth wrapping up for. There’s a bonus of earlier than usual post-botanising pubs to discuss specimens too.. and it’s not just December, we have #NYPH & then it’s necrobotany & cryobotany season!

Also a party member is horrified to learn that Reeva can in fact cast spells from her using weird blood magic he knows from his necrobotany circle, he just usually never does. LOL
Reeva now has glasses from a dead arcanaloth, do they match his vibe? no not at all, hes still wearing them bc they remind him of his bf 🥰
Dnd today! Guess who's in the Amber Temple~!

Spring is upon us but what if Persephone chooses to stay in the Underworld this year. What if she sends Hecate up instead and she’s so bored she decides to bring people back from the dead using necrobotany. What if you had a rose bud for a heart and sap in your veins now.

Masses of Bulbous Meadow-grass in very trampled grassland to the north of the Snettisham beach car-park, favouring the tops of mounds where it stood out because of its greyish colour, vying with Rough Clover for best necrobotany specimen of the day...

Necrobotany: taking an active role in the circle of life

Corpses can make an excellent moving ecosystem! Skin, bone, and marrow provide nutrients over time that help feed the vines that replace muscles and tendons, pollinators form hives in cavities like lungs, and blooms mask the scent of death.

Awesome #Necrobotany find today. Hedge Parsley, I can't ID flowering, but prickly seed heads, empty now, were clear on Phone App & Image trace on Google as Torilis japonica @wildflowerhour.bsky.social @botanybeck.bsky.social @bsbibotany.bsky.social @ians4ad.bsky.social @saocousins.bsky.social

Apparently Necrobotany is a thing and I choose to believe it's using dark magic to bring plants back to life.
