I wrote about neighborism — specifically, about small business joining the resistance.

In Minnesota and elsewhere across the land, grassroots “neighborism” and outrage at Trump’s tyranny are creating an extraordinarily powerful movement.

Neighborism
How did Bad Bunny utter not one word about Trump or authoritarianism at the Super Bowl yet deliver the most power message in 60 years of the game?

Behind Benito's 13-minute love song for the same "neighborism" that's saving Minneapolis from ICE raids

Highly recommend this beautiful piece, and adore the term "neighborism."
GIFT ARTICLE (no paywall). Masterpiece reporting here from Adam. He deserves awards for this.

“This is my first occupation,” Olsen said as I climbed into the truck. “Welcome to the underground, I guess.”

Why the Resistance Matters

Anti-authoritarian “neighborism” and cross-racial solidarity from below are a massive problem for the regime, exposing Trumpism’s structural weaknesses and ideological blind spots.

Some thoughts from my new piece:

“Be a neighbor, not a Nazi.”

ICYMI yesterday: A reflection on the anatomy of the resistance and the regime’s response - on “neighborism,” cross-racial solidarity, and the responsibility we bear for what happens in our community.

“Neighborism.” I like it.
With nuance and deep insight, @adamserwer.bsky.social shares the situation on the ground in Minneapolis—and how it shatters MAGA’s disunifying visions of community.

first rate ad, and thread

increasingly I'm seeing this recipe...

--civic pride
--neighborism
--commitment to fight for ordinary people

...illuminating a better future for our politics
This Danville, VA city council candidate made a very dramatic video about sidewalks and public safety, and I love it and him.

Worrying about a possible milkshake duck situation, I looked at his FB page, but he seems ok. Juneteenth celebrations, community outreach, Methodists. A solid old gent.

"If the Minnesota resistance has an overarching ideology, you could call it “neighborism”—a commitment to protecting the people around you, no matter who they are or where they came from. [T]heir neighbors whether they were born in Minneapolis or Mogadishu."
Last week in Minnesota, I watched ordinary people risk their lives to protect their neighbors. In the process, they not only won a significant—though not final—victory against authoritarianism, they proved virtually every MAGA social theory wrong. (gift link) www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...

It's kind of a redundant name but I think I wanna design an Anarcho-Neighborism flag.

What is happening at Delaney concentration camp is absolute clash of fascist horrors and daring defiance. Everyday people, both those held captive and those outside, are an example to us all of courage and tenacity.
Portland gave us inflatables.
Minnesota, "neighborism."
New Jersey, uprising.
Man there are a lot of people out protesting at Delaney tonight.

Thank you all.

Special thanks to the teams manning the tents. You know who you are.

These are not “protests,” but what Adam Serwer has so aptly called “neighborism”: Acts of democratic solidarity that directly confront the political project that is fueling the violent occupation of American cities and defy the MAGA vision of terrorizing those who don’t “belong” into isolation.

Neighborism as ethos

One thing I found deeply moving about resistance in the Twin Cities was the universalism of loving your neighbor, the philosophy driving the opposition to the ICE/BP invasion. I couldn't help but notice the contrast with the blood and soil-ism of Miller and Vance. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...
