#neimoller
No, Neimoller is a very apt comparison here.

Not for the poem.

He too was a happy Nazi collaborator right up until it was convenient for him to not be.

Wonder who that sounds like....(Clue: it's the membership of this obvious face saving effort)

I’m continually astounded that any woman or any minority would join them - even temporarily to make a buck. I started sharing Neimoller ten years ago, hoping that people would see history repeating. I had no idea how dumb and how brainwashed this country is. They aren’t safe and they’re clueless.

Behind the Bastards this week is about Martin Neimöller (First they came, etc. author) and apparently he was a MILITANT Lutheran, and this joke was 100% made. 😂

Ask Martin Neimoller.

realistically what other choices does that leave a trans woman like me? vote for people who help you but me to die? how many times do you think that calculus works before you run face first into that Martin Neimoller poem?

vote blue, i get nothing and you don’t care.
vote red, suddenly you care

If you've not noticed it already you're living in the Martin Neimoller poem.

Speak out, whatever you are not.

privilege is willing to follow the neimoller poem knowing you’ll be safe.

enjoy your safety while it lasts

true or false:

talarico turning on trans people in an shallow attempt to win is essentially following the Neimoller poem willingly

“first they came for xyz group, but i didn’t speak up cause i thought i could win some middle voters between fascism and anti fascism.”
September 22, 2026 at 6:28 PM
This is the first part of the Neimoller poem
September 21, 2026 at 2:05 PM
Exactly. Everybody conveniently forgets that Neimoller was happy to see the communists and trade unionists rounded up. His only beef was that they eventually came for him.
September 20, 2026 at 4:42 PM
having frank discussions about this phenomenon is somewhat complicated by the fact that martin neimoller had famously rancid vibes.
Usually when you do something like throw trans people to the fascists, the fascists stop there as that’s all they wanted.

They CERTAINLY aren’t empowered even further. That’s for sure.

Intersectionality means you’ll show up in the Neimoller poem sooner than you’d think.

Pastor Martin Neimoller
famously wrote after his imprisonment by the nazis, that YOU should be wary of authoritarians who take freedoms from one group at a time! scotus should immediately enjoin trdump from banning legitimate news organizations from the White House!!!! Will your rights be next????
September 19, 2026 at 11:28 PM
Yes. Neimoller was a conservative who only realized the destructive patterns of the Nazis too late.

He has a lot in common with the liberals in the USA today. (They also hate communists and socialists - even though we don't have armies)

But Ed didn't stand up for Macklemore, he could have cancelled the show, moved it to another stadium, refused to perform without Macklemore but he stayed quiet just like Martin Neimöller did when they came for the communists and the Jews

Liberal democrats who aren’t trans and don’t have any trans people in their lives they care about after reading the Neimoller poem :

“Bullshit. They come for a few groups and then they stop and everything is fine.”
I think it's fine to not always Vote Blue No Matter Who — I myself voted third party instead of for Andrew Cuomo in two consecutive general elections. I think saying that you should be immune to even potentially receiving criticism for doing this is ridiculous though.

Neimoller.

Smacks of a poem by Martin Neimöller, eh?
September 4, 2026 at 11:48 AM
Have you read Male Fantasies? I found its attempt to tease out the differences between Neimöller and his freikorps peers (who never broke with the Nazis) quite interesting
August 29, 2026 at 9:27 PM
I hate it when people think of Neimöller as a, like, David Frum type. Yes, he was in the freikorps. Yes, he voted for the Nazis (3 elections). But then he suffered, and repented, and went on to shake Ho Chi Minh's hand, and he didn't pretend to be anything other than a guilty man

for instance, martin neimöller
