Paleo Fact!

Camposaurus (Camp's Lizard) is a coelophysid from Late Triassic North America! It's widely considered to be the oldest known neotheropod! Neotheropoda is the group of theropods that consists of coelophysoids and all theropods that - (1/2)

-just has a tooth to work with, it's an indeterminate neotheropod for now! A 2020 paper compared it to Acrocanthosaurus and suggested that it was a basal carcharodontosaurid, but any classification is rather flimsy until more fossil material is found! (2/2)

Prestosuchus & other loricatans, such as #Postosuchus, were the dominant large, apex carnivores through most of the Triassic. Their dominance of the terrestrial carnivore guild only began to wane in the latest Triassic, with #herrerasaur & #neotheropod dinosaurs emerging as new apex predators.

Baldur’s Gate 3, you know I love you, and you know how much I appreciate that Druids can transform into a large bodied basal neotheropod, but to saddle it with this made up Jurassic Park horseshit is heartbreaking

Compsognaths and Coelophysoids are quite different animals even at equal lenghts; an early neotheropod doesn't look like a clear tetanurean, not even in terms of proportions.

Prep work for #paleoart of Dracoraptor, a Jurassic neotheropod(?) from Wales. The original "cute" skull reconstruction is strange, bearing little resemblance to any close relatives. I see no reason it shouldn't have a much more conventional L. Trassic/E. Jurassic theropod cranium. #dinosaurs

From Late Triassic Klettgau Formation, Switzerland, "feature mosaic seizer" is a 3 meter neotheropod with a mix of dilophosaurid and coelophysid features, after which it's named. It's the first Mesozoic theropod found in its country

might be worth noting that (although it was originally described as a Coelophysoid) in several recent analyses including my preliminary analysis it is an Averostran-line Neotheropod and not a Coelophysoid. Fantastic art tho :)

A (speculative) reconstruction of Kayentavenator!

With the holotype being a juvenile alongside with it being a transitional Neotheropod-Tetanuran, Monolophosaurus and Sinosaurus were anatomically referenced, giving it a larger adult size, being one of the larger predators of the Kayenta Formation!
