This easily beats the 17kg pppd (poo produced per day) #nerdstat for #RomanCavalry horses ... but begs the stat for the amount of beeswax to cast the harness fittings for an ala ... resist, resist! 😬
Working on a chapter for publication: The min amount of beeswax required to make five "ten" rams for Antony/Cleopatra's fleet is around 1,274 kg. This is 36.4% of the total amount of beeswax needed (~3,500 kg) to produce 200 rams for the Egadi fleet. Assuming no reuse of beeswax. Damn.

Apparently it took 2kg (synthetic) wax to cast a functional replica of the Xanten harness fittings for one #RomanCavalry horse, so an ala quingenaria would take 0.96 tonnes of wax for their fittings ... again, assuming no reuse of wax (which there was with the Xanten project). #nerdstat

Another nerdstat that seems to have been missed in the record-induced delirium is this June heatwave marked the first time we'd ever recorded >36°C for more than two consecutive days, with three.

2022 and 2003 managed two consecutive >36°C days each, no other year has seen more than one at a time.
In fact I think the only other time we've ever recorded two temporally distinct heatwaves >35°C was in 2022, when we had Coningsby in July and then reached 35.0°C in August.

Even 2018, 2006, 2003, 1995, 1976 etc. didn't manage two, let alone three.
Of course, even if a record break didn't come off, temps above 37°C are still ridiculously severe in this country due to our infrastructure, especially if they're at all prolonged.

It'd also mark the first time three temporally distinct heatwaves would have recorded >35°C in British history.

Thunderbolts* has crawled into my head. I’m still not ready to talk about Bob. But the movie inspired an essay -

Let’s get this out of the way: Thunderbolts* is not your typical Marvel fare, because DC has tried to mine this vein multiple times, but with no heart to pump the blood it’s a dry vein indeed.

UCLA averaged 3.6 points per quarter in its first four games. In the last six, it’s averaging 11 points per quarter. #nerdstat
