I support installing invasive "safeguarding" software on kids' devices because there is no better way for kids to learn how their tech works than the stuff they will figure out trying to circumvent that shit.

Yeah, the bad guys out there are scanning constantly on port 22. A classic old sys/netadmin is to simply run your SSH daemon on a more obscure port. Sure, it's not technically any more secure than on the standard port, but keeps your logs from spammed up by all the attempts.

I started my career by downloading, and installing linux on my 386DX-40.. That led me to a small cable-co that needed a sysadmin, then I became the sysadmin/netadmin/support/installer/software developer. We started with dialup, then I deployed the first cable modems in production.
