NetHui used to be great! They cancelled the most recent one due to lack of interest. Hope they can bring it back to what it once was.

Not having NetHui for the past 5 years is a huge factor. No gathering means no chance to energise people and rebuild frayed community ties.

FWIW I’ve seen both of the latter two directly engage with InternetNZ through NetHui and in projects diving into Internet issues, though that is likely not visible through the very limited engagement window the org has had for a few years now.

We go way back with @micheleacourt.bsky.social. She's MCd NetHui at least three times and voiced videos for us – so she was our first choice to help us host NetTalks, and we're so pleased she said yes! Christchurch, we'd love you to join us this Friday at 5.30pm.

Definitely not the Slack where it is supposed to be happening! Beyond that, I have no clue. Here mostly. And of course members are talking directly to each other via various methods (none of which were NetHui!)

Thanks for reminding me that our government's annual conference on fighting extremism and terrorism, established in the wake of the Christchurch terror attacks, has been cancelled due to 'security concerns'. Reassuring!

While not exactly the same, this totally gels with the SpaceHui we want to put on within the next couple of years. Modelled after NetHui in NZ (includes sector experts, but intentionally thrown wide open to the public). Itself modelled on a traditional Hui or 'peoples assembly'.
