#neuromorphics
The field of #neuromorphics is lacking *accessible*, *intuitive*, and *practical* introductions. Ramashish Gaurav, Petruț Antoniu Bogdan, and I are setting out to fix this with a book on Practical Spiking Neural Networks! ✅

Any and all contributions are welcome! 💕

Excited to share my first 2nd author NeurIPS paper, w/ Colin Bredenberg, Cristina Savin, @tyrellturing.bsky.social, & Guillaume Lajoie! We formulate a mathematically grounded notion of locality for learning rules in neural nets. Useful for neuroscience & neuromorphics

Neuromorphics are kind of like that quote about brazil, but i think theres something there

There are two sort of longstanding hurdles: one is that neuromorphics tend to be imprecise, but SGD performs badly when you decrease precision, and the other is that there's no dominant general-purpose neuromorphic architecture that is performant for a wide variety of network architectures

I'm not a very famous chip guy but I know a couple things about neuromorphics. An open and yet unanswered question is whether some architectures hewing closer to the conventional (like TPUs) get you most of the way without the difficulty of analogue circuit design

Neuromorphics don't even really have standard units at the level of an electronic circuit that any old foundry can just print in great quantity to the requisite tolerance, in the same way that digital circuits have logic gates that are made up of configurations of transistors

A lot of companies have side bets on neuromorphics for this reason. Basically chips on spiking nets that are more energy efficient, but require a lot of a annoying stuff to work

Curious about #neuromorphic computing? 🧠💻
We want to revolutionalize the way we program brain-inspired systems and are plotting a course in a new publication with Steven Abreu: ieeexplore.ieee.org/abstract/doc... (or open access arxiv.org/abs/2410.22352)

@chilluminatipod.fm on the convo of ai sentience check out neuromorphics. The tech is still in its infancy howmever, the implications plus your convos on quantum computing and whatnot i think would offer nice discussions. Love it show.

We decided to shift our discussion onto a hypothetical photo-neuromorphic computer, or computer combining photonics and neuromorphics. 🤔

But! I believe we’ll be breaking ground on new reactors exploring novel designs.

But, we’re working on reducing power needs of large neural networks, including developing neuromorphics systems. (I’m on my way to a neuromorphic conference now.)
