Supposedly the NHSTA is going to be reviewing headlight standards soon?

Who should ride in a booster? Kids, especially younger ones, are safer in a 5-point harness. Do not rush to “graduate” your child to a booster seat. www.nhtsa.gov/equipment/ca...

Motorsports nerd here. Theres zero chance the NHSTA approves a pressurized air tank made of carbon fiber in a carbon fiber car on US roads. When that thing gets t-boned by someone. boom! No track is also letting that thing on an NHRA or SCCA regulated track. No insurance is going to cover it either

The siren song of CAFE loopholes has lured us into Brobdingnagian truckbeasts and then NHSTA standards got modified to make truckbeasts all but mandatory.

Congress, the NHSTA and state governments have *chosen* to allow personal vehicles to have dangerous proportions, unwarranted fuel inefficient, cheap registration costs, and they even created tax loopholes for bigger trucks.

According to NHSTA, ~36,640 people died in car crashes in the US last year. By contrast, public transit is one of the safest ways to travel

I’m lowkey aghast here.

Okay before I dig through 2026 NHSTA reports, it is your sincere belief that most auto accidents are due to wildlife. That is the claim you’re making? I’m not misunderstanding you and this is not some elaborate troll?

Then I can agree, the Cybertruck is badly designed, not safe, has severe entrapment risks in crashes and I’ve dealt with watching twenty people die over my entire time monitoring the NTSB and NHSTA crash reports etc.

Even the Model Y

We need to recall all these cars off The road

30% involve cars, which this blog attributes to the NHSTA (www.lookupaplate.com/blog/car-vs-...), but I wasn't able to trace that attribution back to the actual NHSTA data

The NHSTA is only concerned with ensuring the nation is dependent on cars to please their dear lobbyists
August 25, 2026 at 5:33 PM
I'm not saying cars should *be* less safe for the occupants, but I am saying they should *feel* that way once you go over 25 mph or so

I'm banning sound deadening and all other NVH reduction measures when I take over the NHSTA

GM Cruise criminally mislead NHSTA in multiple crash reports. The reports are not routinely audited. Cruise's misconduct was only discovered after their horrific crash and after they shutdown uncrewed operations and after ~6 million "not safe" miles of driving, per California DMV assessment.

A few weeks back the BYD Seagull was released. Cute basic car but not NHSTA compliant. Every legacy brand bought one to disassemble and study. They’re not going to stay away forever.

In time some will come to the US. Rebadged as legacy brands, meeting NHSTA requirements, and with prices that reflect the import duties that offset the Chinese systemic subsidies.
But most will come to the US as components within legacy cars. It’s easier to sell battery packs, motors, etc.

I am once again asking what the fuck biden's NHSTA was doing
1. This isn't the first time the doors wouldn't open and it resulted in someone dying

2. If this were any other automaker, they'd be in a senate hearing right now
What an absolute nightmare. A high school student saw his friends crash their Cybertruck and rushed to help, but was only able to rescue one of them because the car's doors would not open from the outside.

He watched his three other friends burn to death.

i really am worried that the next admin is going to have a bunch of staffers who cooked their brain on bsky and want to eliminate transformative use on copyright law or have nhsta effectively ban self driving taxis
one area where i really diverge from people on here is that i have neutral to positive views on automation overall

Why is NHSTA even allowing Tesla's fake vaporware of self-driving out in the wild?

If Tesla doesn’t sell them but operates/ uses them do they need NHSTA authority?
I guess they need a separate authority to take fare paying customers.

Hmm,

Yesterday I read about a lawsuit for #fad headed by #nhsta in a #florida #teslalawsuit case, who's up to almost 1000+ #FAD accidents covering 30+ deaths by FAD.

Today the news is....

NHSTA let Cybertrucks loose on the public, so it's not as if they really care about safety standards. Let my people Kei!
January 3, 2025 at 5:22 PM
Roadway deaths have fallen by more than 5% since NHSTA has implemented safety provisions outlined in the IIJA. But there is more work to do. That's why Senator Richard Blumenthal and I urged NHTSA to finalize its proposed rules to maintain our progress in reducing roadway deaths.
