Iranian-American lobby group calls on Trump to rule out using nuclear weapons
The National Iranian-American Council (NIAC) has called on US President Donald Trump to rule out using nuclear weapons in Iran following a social media post from Tucker Carlson suggesting it was being discussed.
Carlson, a right-wing former ally of Trump, posted on X that the US could be "within days" of launching a nuclear strike on Iran targeting an alleged site for nuclear enrichment.
In a statement, NIAC said Trump needed to disavow Tucker's claims, which - if true - would mark the first nuclear strike on a civilian target since World War Two:
Whether these allegations reflect serious military planning or reckless posturing, the very possibility of a U.S. nuclear attack on Iran is an unconscionable horror. After eight months of devastating war, Iranian Americans are once again being forced to wait in terror as the Trump administration reportedly weighs another catastrophic escalation at the urging of Benjamin Netanyahu. NIAC demands that President Trump immediately and unequivocally rule out any use of nuclear weapons against Iran. Congress must urgently intervene to prevent further escalation and bring an end to this devastating war before an already horrific conflict becomes an irreversible catastrophe.
