I like this town, it's kind of funky. But there is a lot of dirty industry, too. All in all I think Nichinan is the place for us still.

Sooo...I think we found our house? Hard to get good photos because it is jam packed with dead people's stuff. 😕 We have to negotiate stuff removal as part of our offer. It's in Nichinan, Miyazaki prefecture.

I checked out, politely telling the clerk I had chopsticks at home, so didn't need any, packed my bag, grabbed my umbrella from the holder outside, and headed home.

Less than a block in, it started raining, so I popped up my umbrella and my groceries and I made it home dry.

"SABOTEN PARK" Cactus Garden, Miyazaki Prefecture.
The Saboten Park (Cactus Garden) in Nichinan City was a botanical garden (1937〜2005). It was a popular tourist destination.
Length 63cm (24.8in). This pennant was produced around 1970s or 1980s. #vintage
1, Miyazaki Cactus Park pennant. It is a white cloth with an illustration printed on it and decorated with yellow fringe. 2, The illustration shows the sea of Nichinan coast and a group of cacti. 3, Enlarged image of the illustration. A small bridge has been built on the rocky shore of Nichinan Coast to form a promenade. In the park area, there are many Uchiwa cacti planted with many red flowers. 4, The title is "SABOTEN PARK" (red) in English, Gothic font. The subtitle is written in both Japanese and English (black). In Japanese, the subtitle is "Road Park Nichinan Coast". And, "Travel in Miyazaki" in English.

Today is burnable garbage day. Tuesday was mixed plastics, the most difficult sort. Someone in our neighborhood did it wrong, got a ticket, and their garbage left behind. As of last night, they still hadn't retrieved it. If it's still there at noon, I'm going to take it and fix it. Nichinan lady!

The Cactus Garden in Nichinan City was a botanical garden that opened in 1937, but unfortunately closed in 2005.
Length 73cm (28.7in). This pennant was produced around 1970s or 1980s. #vintage
1, Cactus Garden Pennant. It is a white cloth with illustrations printed on it and decorated with yellow fringe. The cactus, which was not originally found in Japan, was loved by many Japanese because of its unique shape. 2, The illustration is of the Nichinan coast and colorful flowering cacti. The blue sea and the rocky shoreline with bridges leading to walking paths. There are many red, blue, and yellow flowers of the Uchiwa cactus and several types of cacti. 3, The title is written both in Japanese and English. The title is "Cactus Garden" (red) in Japanese. The subtitle is "Cactus Garden" and "QUASI NATIONAL PARK NICHINAN COAST" in English. 4, A cute child's face with a Mexican hat is drawn on the right edge of the pennant.

Aoshima is a beautiful little island off the coast of Miyazaki City. This pennant features a depiction of the phoenix grove on Aoshima Beach and Aoshima Island itself.

1. The Aoshima pennant. It features an illustration printed on dark navy blue fabric and is trimmed with yellow fringe. 2. The illustration depicts the Phoenix Forest and the “Devil’s Washboard Rocks” on the coast. Aoshima is depicted small and in the distance. 3. Close-up of the illustration. The Phoenix Grove and the “Devil’s Washboard Rocks” on the coast. A cactus bearing red flowers. With Aoshima in the background, the image conveys a sense of depth. 4. The title is written in both Japanese and English. “AOSHIMA” (red) is written in uppercase Roman letters in italics.
