Like, they're worried that nondoms might leave, thus undermining the revenue from abolishing nondom status? This is a risk they've just realised years after promising to scrap nondoms? So they might drop that entire manifesto policy? Come on!

That they don’t leave in response to tax changes and it’s the Torygraph scaremongering? #NonDoms
‘Fewer non-doms left than feared’ after Rachel Reeves’s budget

Forecasts suggested a quarter would abandon the UK after tax changes. Initial data suggests the exodus was softer than expected. Who would have guessed

“We can fund everything with the magical money tree of Working Age Welfare” is obviously a popular place for an opposition party to be, and from a purely instrumental position I can’t fault it, but the same was true for “nondoms, VAT on private schools and growth will pay for it” under Keir.

Why should nondoms benefit from UK services and infrastructure as financed by taxation if they pay no taxes? It's better that they should leave.

Shocking.
With such a majority, Labour could do anything it pleases. But what it does do pleases the NonDoms and the Oil barons. FFS

I'm sorry I voted for them. I'll vote green from now on.

Most rich people's wealth is in assets (buildings, funds etc) that can't just be packed into a suitcase and taken abroad. You will recall the horror with which the (abandoned due to corruption) nondom tax was viewed. If it was toothless the nondoms wouldn't have cared.
April 6, 2025 at 7:25 AM
I really wish they'd come to their senses and bring in a wealth tax, perhaps one that will only affect those with assets of more than £10,000,000. Nondoms not wanting to pay increased taxation have mostly already left. Think we have 55 billionaires: hopefully they'd agree to a small tax.

Tax nondoms, private equity, trusts, and oligarchs enough to fund social housing.
Put think tanks using Thatcher's cruel social housing sell-off as an excuse for more tax cuts in the bin.
Or the tumbrel.

Fewer nondoms leave, no really anyone left private schools.....almost like the right wing media is just making stuff up to try and keep things as they are.

Some MP: Why don't we do wealth taxes instead?

Kendall: Nondoms, we are *looking at* the profits of energy companies

lol Reeves is already walking back the non-dom thing and just hooting at the idea that Labour will break the energy companies

"If the millionaires aren't paying sufficient taxes, I don't see what the problem is with them leaving."

As Rachel Reeves is reportedly looking to soften proposed non-dom tax changes, UCU general secretary Jo Grady says it shouldn't be the priority.

Yes, from the tax free money they have for posing as fake nondoms under a sweetheart deal with the HMRC. What a great system!

Tell me again why the Chancellor has listened to the whining of the non-doms when *this* reality should be the priority…

1 in 3 children in poverty - an extra 260k 'on the breadline' since Covid. Children in poverty feel it in every aspect of life. Constant hunger, shame about living conditions and clothes, worry about bills. This is no way to set up the next generation for success. www.theguardian.com/society/2024...

I am really looking forward to all these people fucking off so we don’t have to read about them any more, that’s the real payout from taxing nondoms
Are we supposed to feel some sort of sympathy for David Sullivan and his friends??

He certainly isn’t a man of ppl or a bloke for the working men or working women or working youth. He’s a grifter who wants to gather his loot by hook or crook.
He supported US invasion of Iran yet he took freebies from Iranian billionaire. He hates immigrants yet he welcome NonDoms with tax breaks …

Wages are low in the UK compared to the EU average and there lies the rub. Profits on the other hand are excellent, despite all the moaning in the Torygraph and Mail and from billionaires superficially relocating to Monaco and then continuing to live here as fake nondoms.
September 30, 2026 at 8:53 AM
This is very good - millionaire discontent as driven by Brexit impacts, a decaying public realm, a waning stock market etc, starting before Labour ended nondoms' exemption.

Cue loads of scare stories based on rickety claims by 1 company with a vested interest...& its research firm w a staff of 1.
The British “wealth exodus” is a big fat myth. Rachel Reeves is not responsible for chasing millionaires away from UK PLC. www.newstatesman.com/politi...

seven words, repeated 11 times. A common criticism leveled at the very repetitive "praise songs" some Protestant churches (esp nondoms) use
