#nonograms
aw thank you! i would love to have a play by mail club where i send out monthly nonograms to other fellow puzzle enthusiasts. hopefully i’ll find folks interested in partaking :D

they can be tricky if you’re not familiar with certain techniques! but they’re very fun and i encourage you to try out smaller grid puzzles ^_^ i love nonograms bc it combines two of my interests: pixel art and puzzles! :D

i like the 3DS and switch picross games because of the pixel art. nonograms are pretty easy after you do a lot, though, yeah.

larger nonograms aren't more difficult. afaict they're just more of the busywork. same principles, same method every time to fill it out. they're a good enough timewaster and kind of meditative but i might need to find variants or something if i want them to be fun in the puzzle way again

unfortunately i have figured out how nonograms work so nonograms are now less of a fun puzzle and more like busywork and the only reaction i get is not "i feel really stimulated/frustrated trying to figure this out" and more "oh damn i somehow filled in this column wrong"

LOL tomo this is a great first attempt since you haven’t done nonograms before! trust me, it takes a while to get the hang of but once you do, it clicks :) thank you times infinity for playtesting, it means more than i can express within this character limit ^u^

omg thank you so much!! lol you’re not dumb, you’re just new to nonograms :’) trust me, i also felt dumb when i started but now i’m happy to say i can do pretty complicated ones after years of doing them ^_^ i’m glad you were able to complete it :D

This nicely encapsulates why I bounce off a lot of games: I want a fidget spinner that isn't a slot machine

(most of my "game" time is nonograms and slitherlink)
the ideal form of commercial gamedev is a fidget spinner that is also a slot machine

it's not about communicating anything, it's about self-soothing. this is the rosetta stone to understanding like half a dozen different recurring game design discourses and the design trends that kick them off
I find it funny when people talk about how games are this art form that can make you feel emotions, but then you bring up something like wanting more games to have timers & people will say its bad design "because it makes me anxious"

So emotions only allowed through story, not gameplay. Got it lol.

🐭nonogram master... I'm going into the puzzle realm and I need your strongest nonograms...

🐭we've seen a good chunk of feedback about the game and like, a lot of people said they really enjoyed the black and white nonograms looking like the thing they represent, as well as the color art you reveal looking good too. of the things people didn't like about the demo, the nonograms weren't one
September 30, 2026 at 12:39 AM
🐭as I make some new nonograms I wonder if this whole game is just an elaborate scheme to get people to look at our pixel art
September 30, 2026 at 12:34 AM
🐭the reason this happens is because roxy did a thorough test of what limits the nonograms start slowing down our scripts (because even doing it in C++ isn't fast enough for really big puzzles) so our goal is to design nonograms that dont exceed these (and often, these puzzles are illogical anyways)
September 29, 2026 at 10:52 PM
🐭I went to make a new nonogram because we need more nonograms and somehow, the nonogram I made not only crashed the editor but now I can't even OPEN that specific nonogram LOL

Auto solve button added for good measure too 😂 cause its meant to be a 'hackerman' mechanic, but not the main focus of the game. So if you like nonograms you should be able to have a nice few puzzles that turn into creepy viruses - and if you don't care you can just skip it 🙌 (virus still included)

I would be SO DOWN FOR THIS. Been planning to learn nonograms for awhile and your artwork is super cute.

brain goes: what if rpg, but the battles are timed nonograms, and your skills/abilities give you more hints/time vs more difficult 'grams from enemies who also have abilities
